Azucena and her "diabetes"

Azucena is the only one of her siblings to be diagnosed with diabetes. This dispite the fact that her mom and most everyone in her family had it. However, no one on her dad's side has it.
So why only Azucena? Well, the news is, it may not be diabetes after all. She has a small tumor on her pituitary gland. Normally tumors are something to be concerned about, but in this case, we look at it as a positive step to her health. She found all this out when she changed endocrinologists. First her medication was changed for the better, then her doctor suggested she might have the tumor.
See her email to her siblings below..

"Thought I'd let you know that I've been diagnosed with a tumor on my
pituitary gland which could easily have caused my diabetes. I had an MRI
and other tests to confirm that I have acromegaly. If I had the condition
a few decades earlier, I could've been tall, BUT since I'm late to the
game, it looks like I have other symptoms. I'll be meeting with a
neurosurgeon on Wednesday to discuss options. It's not as bad as it
sounds. The tumor is normally benign and given it's size I have a good
chance for a "cure".
My endocrinologist says there is even the possibility that my diabetes
might go away when they remove the tumor. Just wanted to let you know
what's going on with me before I mention it on my facebook status.
If you are curious and want the morbid details, feel free to give me a
buzz on my mobile. I'm actually pretty happy at the prospect of being
diabetes free."

Diabetes

Just want to clarify. I do have diabetes, but it may have been caused by the pituitary tumor rather than other causes.

Date of Operation

Azucena will be having the operation to remove the tumor on this coming Tuesday (5/26). She will be in the hospital through Thursday morning. St. Davids if you are curious.

Hospital Stay

I'll be at the St. Davids on 32nd street, checking it at 5AM (yuck) Tuesday morning.  I'll be in ICU for about 24 hours after surgery so they can monitor me and make sure they didn't screw up.  I'll be in another hospital room about another 24 hours so I should be checking out on Thursday morning.  The doc said it would feel like someone punched me in the nose.  It will be weird to have surgery but no cool scar to show off.  The only reason the date for surgery would change is if our insurance wants more notice before okaying.  I'm thinking I should know for sure by today or tomorrow.  If it's delayed, we'll plan it for after July 16th after I finish the Texas Teaching Institute.

Successful Surgery

Azucena's surgery is successful. She was done around 9am. She started taking visitors around 10. She is already weaned from pain meds. She'll be in ICU until tomorrow morning, then she'll have a regular room until she's discharged on Thursday.

Jim and Evelyn has stopped by for a few hours. Angie and the boys will be here later today. A few others will stop by tomorrow.

She says thanks for all the support she's been given and prayers as well.

Pretty much healed

You know she's pretty much healed up all the way when she started sneezing and not checking for brains.
Her blood pressure is looking great and she's feeling pretty good. She still needs to see her endo for the final post surgery checkup.

Healing up

Glad you are healing up and are feeling better. The comment about "when she started sneezing and not checking for brains" was really funny.
